Per previous post, I have introduced the devices to start a smart home setup. After setting up with Alexa devices to provide a virtual assistance and voice control interface, smart lights and thermostats for heating and boiler, let’s add more devices to complete a smart home.
Today, I am going to introduce the entertainment products, like TV and smart speakers, which are compatible with Alexa which can let you control or configure the devices with same Alexa APP and voice controlled interface.
There are several ways to control your TV, you can use a built-in Alexa Smart TV, Fire TV devices or use Alexa with Logitech Harmony remote control system.
Amazon Fire TV Cube
Amazon launched the all new Fire TV cube for controlling your TV or soundbar. You can just put down the remote controller and choose what you want to watch, changing channels, volume or your and check weather and it will show on the screen.
Fire TV Cube is compatible with TVs, soundbars A/V receivers and satellite boxes from popular brands like, Samsung, Sony, LG, Sonos, Bose, Onkyo, Pansonic and more. You can check the devices compatibility for Fire TV Cube to check how you apply it to your home.
The Fire TV cube need to control the devices via a multi-directional IR (infrared) blaster and HDMI CEC interface. Simply to say, you need connect the HDMI cable to the TV.
There are rich of content inside the Fire TV, like Netflix, HBO, Starz, Hulu, PlayStation Vue and Crackle and more smaller services. Moreover, there will be more new services added regularly.
Besides for the entertainment system, you can also check with your camera in your home. For example, if some push your Ring Video Doorbell, you can check with Alexa who it is.
For the performance, the Fire TV supports 4K Ultua HD content at 60 fps with HDR10 and Dolby Atmos. Besides, it also support Dolby Vision which is one of the improvement compare with previous Cube. Plus, this version get a hexagon process which will get fast performence. It will run perfectly with a 4K HDR TV and a 15Mbps or higher connection to 4K streaming video.
